While summer in Michigan is spectacular, coming in at a close second place for our favorite season here at Meadow’s Realty Group is most definitely fall. Full of vibrant colors, cozy weather, and fun spooky vibes, fall has more than earned it’s way into the heart’s of many. At home, there’s no better way to celebrate and show your love for the season than by transforming the outside of your home into an autumn wonderland.

Style Your Porch for Fall
To create the perfect outdoor space that will rival any pumpkin patch, we’ve put together some tips and tricks below on how to get creative and transition your porch from summer to fall.
Choose a Color Scheme
Whether you’re a fan of fall leaves and want to stay classic with oranges and yellows, go vintage with greens and creams, or modern and spooky with black and white, choosing a color palette you want to follow is always a great first step to staying organized while decorating any space. For some great ideas, check out pre-made fall color palettes like these.

First Impressions
The focal point of any porch is your front door. Wreaths and garland are a great and easy way to get started, and often you can find some great DIY ideas – like these tips compiled by The Spruce – that also double as a fun and creative way to get the whole family involved.
For an extra touch, find a seasonal rug to bring the entire area together. Shop local by checking out one of our favorite small businesses, The Doormat Gals.

Restyle Your Planters
Utilizing planters from the summer is a great and efficient way to continue styling your space. Mums are the perfect seasonal flower to pick up from your local garden center, and come in a variety of colors. Get even more creative and stand out by adding pumpkins, leaves, or other seasonal finds on, around, or even into your planters.

Stacks & Layers
Adding interest and layers to your decor will ramp up the space even more. Utilizing basic fall favorites like pumpkins or haystacks (yes, haystacks!) and festive pillows on benches, up your staircase, or flanking your front door are a great way to show off your decorating skills and impress the entire neighborhood.

Light it up
We’re strong believers that you can never have enough festive lighting! Twinkle lights aren’t just for Christmas and can be used to create a warm or a spooky vibe. Lanterns that you used on your back patio in the summer season are also a great transitional option. Or, for a truly one of a kind way to add mood lighting to your porch, you can create DIY candle holders and votives using – you guessed it – pumpkins from your favorite local pumpkin patch.

Make it Spooky
You can add a festive touch to your existing fall decor during the holiday by adding simple touches. In addition to the classics, such as carved pumpkins and scarecrows, one of our favorite DIYs are these fun bat cut-outs by Martha Stewart.
