Winter is quickly descending upon Michigan and we can expect that cold, snowy weather is here to stay – at least for a little while. Luckily, if you and your family prefer the great outdoors, this doesn’t mean you have to resign yourself to indoor activities until spring, as there are plenty of great options nearby for both skiing and snowboarding. Whether you’re looking for bunny hills or are ready to hit some more advanced slopes, below you can find a list of ski resorts less than 3 hours away from Detroit that offer plenty of wintery fun for all ages and skill levels.

Alpine Valley

The Hornet’s Nest Bar is also located on site for those who would like to warm up while enjoying a beer or cocktail and some amazing views.
Bittersweet

The perfect spot for an overnight or weekend getaway, Bittersweet Ski & Snowboard Resort is located approximately 2.5 hours from Detroit in Otsego. Offering 20 runs of for all levels, private and group lessons, and plenty of on-site anemites, it’s the perfect location to take the entire family for some snowy outdoor fun. Pine Knob

Another great option in Oakland County is Pine Knob Ski Resort, conveniently located in Clarkston. Pine Knob has 17 trails, a full-service skip shop, lessons, and food and beverage options inside the lodge area. Mt. Brighton

Located approximately 50 minutes from Detroit, you can find 17 trails and 3 terrain parks for all levels at Mt. Holly Ski & Snowboard Resort. In addition, there are food and drink options in the lodge, lessons available for all ages, and the Mt. Holly Skip Shop is on-site.
